The film depicts a series of events with no apparent logic. A clerk is made dedundant, an immigrant is violently attacked, a magician makes a mess of his routine, and Karl sets fire to his furniture shop to cash in from the insurance. The following day the chaos gets worse and only Karl seems to understand the absurdity, realising how difficult it is to be a human being. When you add to it a city strangled by horrendous traffic jam, a senile general, mad economist, the ghost of a Russian boy hanged by the fascists and a man selling crucifixes, you'll discover that Roy Andersson is still true to himself.
